A home away from home!

Our project ‘the mountain home’ strikes a perfect balance between contemporary design and unrefined natural beauty. This blog invites you to explore the fusion of modern architecture with pristine charm of the mountains. The proud homeowner of this retreat here highlights their taste with meticulously crafted fireplace and paintings that pay homage to local artistry of Uttarakhand.

The beautiful villa named ‘Villa Oakland’ is constructed on a hilltop in Mukteshwar and it belongs to a Merchant Navy Captain Ashok Mehra and his wife Tulsi Mehra and daughter Dhristhi Mehra. The home is a perfect blend of peace and comfort. The living room here is a sanctuary of modern design with a hint of Kumaoni style…

Take a look at this beautiful home nestled on the foothills of Uttrakhand mountains.

Living room

Living room with a view of mountains!

The moment you step in the living room, you will find large window panels offering the view of beautiful green mountains found right in front of the villa. “I cannot resist but stare out every time I am in the living room sitting with my family or having a cup of coffee on my couch. I have spent a good amount of time on mountains when I was small, and I can never get tired of watching them.” said Ashok Mehra. The modern sofa, the fine marble top center table, the giant chandelier on top, and the kumaoni artwork simply add up to the beauty of this room.

Dining Room

Just like the living room, the dining room too opens to the beautiful mountains and neutral shades of the outside world. The colour of the mountains represents the overall mood of dining space, and its rich and vibrant patterns makes it even better. “I was specific of how my dining space should look and make me feel and thanks to the team of designers, I have got exactly what I wanted,” said Tulsi Mehra. The live edge dining table, hand-made by a local carpenter and the beautiful Kumaoni-style fireplace takes the centre stage.

Primary Bedroom

The beautiful rustic beds in the master bedroom not only stands for Kumaoni artistry but looks truly exclusive for a countryside villa. “This room is my favourite part of the house because, its cozy, its real and it has serenity of the natural world thanks to the sized-up windows and double height ceilings,” Mehra added. The designers maintained a minimalist palette to keep the focus on the surroundings rather than just the interiors.

Lounge Room

Lounge room for a winter night party!

The family lounge, nestled on the first floor, is wide enough to bring in light from all the sides. “The room has its own energy, and I think its because of the mountains that can be seen all the way through,” added the designer. The sofa set in the lounge room is designed by AMU Design Studio, while the centre table is a work of art by a local carpenter. The whole space is perfect to welcome guests on frigid winter evenings to enjoy the magic of mountains.

Captain Ashok Mehra has an old hand in the Merchant Navy, and he understand how important it is to have a home close to the roots. “For me, the home is a realisation of a long-held dream, one that speaks volume about the the past and the present all at once,” added Ashok Mehra. On a mountainous site like this one, constructing a home is not easy but the team of designers and the workers eventually found a way.
